Ethos

WhiteSpaces creates opportunities to challenge received narratives about power and oppression. It does this through a range of activity which includes audio, digital and live events, writings and information curating.

WhiteSpaces is challenging because it seeks to name and to rethink mainstream understandings and dominant narratives around power and inequality. But this challenge is undertaken in the spirit of generosity and openness to a range of points of view, experiences, communications and desires. It resists apportioning blame for inequality and social injustices. Instead WhiteSpaces uses challenging opportunities to promote generative possibility for developing collaborative responsibility through and alongside social difference. It does this in the belief that learning new things about ourselves and our own power works in the service of social change which holds human connection at its heart.

WhiteSpaces makes connections between people, ideas, organisations and activities which rarely meet, believing in the capacity of relational practice to hold together the contradictions, the discomforts and the personal and intellectual challenges of this working with and through power.

WhiteSpaces is an evolving meeting point a contact zone.
